Win, Loss, Learn - Housecall Pro

Each Friday standup on the Innovation team at Housecall Pro is a little different - but usually we share one win, loss, and learn from the past week.

Friday April 29th, 2022 was my last day at Housecall Pro, so I wrote my Win, Loss, and Learn about the past 13 months of being apart of the company.

This is what I shared with the team:

Win

Having the rare opportunity to work with a team who genuinely wants the best for each other, doesn’t take themselves too seriously - but takes work very seriously. It’s a win to come here everyday and see you all, and know that anyone on this team will be able to solve a problem we have, and do it with a huge smile on their face. It’s a win that we have such a close connection with Pros, that we can learn from them in many ways, laugh with them, and celebrate our mutual successes with them daily. It’s a win that we’re in an environment that nurtures the need to be bleeding edge, to try new things, push new boundaries, and come out better when we make mistakes. Being on this team is a win, being in this company is a win, and growing around you all is the biggest win of them all.

Loss

As I think about my time here, I often think more about “losses” than wins - in the best way - calling every trade school in the US, twitch streaming for leads, trying to get 2500 prospects for jobboard, the list goes on. But those “losses” only set up the future for massive opportunities. Without these - HCP edu wouldn’t have started, scholarship would have looked a lot different, we would have never met some of the influential teachers and students we met. Above all, being at Housecall Pro has taught me the benefits of losses, how to turn them into a great lesson, and how to take the next step without worry, knowing that the loss is temporary. If it weren’t for the losses we wouldn’t be here. We all wouldn’t be here. HCP taught me how important they really are.

Learn

Where do i even start. As I said, being on this team is a rare opportunity- most obviously cause of the people, the company, the projects we work on, our fun times, etc. But where there’s immense, unseen value is in learning. The term “housecall pro years” is real. You’ll feel like you’ve learned so much, did so much, and still only a few weeks have went by. We move at a speed that not many companies or teams at our size can say they do, and that results in rapid growth - both personally, and in our work. Having the opportunity to peek under the hood at all different initiatives is just so cool, and I can’t even begin to count how many spontaneous learnings have come from that.

We’ve created an environment where asking questions and challenging ideas is encouraged, and the team all rallies around each other in these moments.

As I think back to the past 13 months, I couldn’t see myself in a better situation than this, and I can’t thank you all enough for taking a young 19 year old Cam in, and treating me not like an intern, but like a true member of the team. I’ve always felt so welcomed, and was excited every day to learn something new from people I can call my friends.

My last learn - this is really difficult. I told Alexa it feels like im leaving home for college, though I have no idea what that feels like, aha. But really, Im so sad to be leaving you guys, and will forever cherish the moments we’ve lived together, and can’t wait to see what we all crush next. I appreciate and love you all.
